Ancient Egyptian Heroes Off The Reels
Ramses II
Now we’ve introduced you to some of our favourite Egyptian video slots, we thought we’d introduce you to some of the most awesome pharaohs in history, though, not with the odd mishap or two!
Often heralded as one of the most successful leaders of all, Ramses II ruled his kingdom for over 60 years and built epic temples, but his true legacy was his military achievements. His 100,000 strong army cemented his legacy so much, that no fewer than nine other pharaohs were named after him.
Hatshepsut
Hats off to this gal. She ruled for over 20 years, commissioning countless buildings and even getting her own room in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her reign might have been peaceful, but she had been co-ruling with Thutmose III who was too young to rule himself when his father died. When Hatshepsut died, Thutmose decided to remove her legacy, defacing her image from all of her temples and monuments. Still, we know her name today, so Thutmose wasn’t entirely successful.
Djoser
The master of firsts. Djoser was the first to live exclusively in Memphis, the royal capital. This crafty king was also the first to commission the step pyramid. He is also represented on what’s considered to be the oldest life-sized statue from the time.
Akhenaten
Forbidding the worship of traditional gods might have seemed like a dodgy move to make, but Akhenaten did just that, instead of getting his people to worship Aten – the disc of the sun and aspect of the god Ra. He’s also made famous by his all-powerful queen, Nefertiti. However, when his rule ended, so did his way of worshipping, and things went back quite happily to the way they were.
Now that you’ve had your fix, why not try a few spins on our Egyptian slots as we wait to see what the archaeologists discover in the new found tomb? Since we’re hearing about statues and feline mummies as well, you could alternatively try writing out some hieroglyphs or even indulge in some cat worship, whatever suits you…
